Don’t cry. Don’t cry. I repeat the mantra to myself as I shove the few pieces of clothing I left strewn out into a plastic bag. I didn’t really think things were turning around, did I?

It figures I’d find a brother that cares about me then immediately betray him by sleeping with his best friend. Derek’s words from earlier float through my head. Did she ever talk about me? Miss me or anything?

If he knows, he’ll think I chose his best friend over him. Just like my mom chose me over him. I still don’t understand how she made that decision. How do you choose between your kids? How do you choose which one is strong enough to stay behind and endure more abuse?

“What in the hell do you think you’re doing?”

I startle at Cam’s voice but refuse to face him. It’ll be easier to have this conversation if I’m not looking at him. “I’ll be out of your hair in just a few minutes. There’s a car on the way.”

“Cancel it,” he grinds out. “You’re not going anywhere.”

“I can’t stay here.” I gesture around the room but still refuse to look at him. I don’t want to stay here and listen while he brings other women home. Just last night, he was out looking to hook up with a woman. That’s what Derek said.

He crosses the room. His hands go to my shoulders, and he turns my body to face him. “You can, and you will. That’s final.”

I shouldn’t like that deep growling tone or the way it makes my panties wet. Images from our night together play in my mind, a dirty movie that’s never far from my thoughts. “Look, I don’t want to be here. I know I was just a notch on your bed post and—”

He puts his thumb against my lips, not letting me finish my sentence. Fire flashes in his gaze. “Don’t you dare make that night out like it was a cheap hookup. It was the best night of my life.”

Hope blooms in my heart but I immediately crush it. “If I meant so much, why were you out looking for a hookup last night? Derek told me where you were.”

He frowns then his gaze clears. “Because I’ve been going out every night I have off searching for you. I sit at the Charging Bull and look at everyone who comes in. Then I go and sit at the hotel and see if you’re there. I couldn’t find you any-fucking-where and it’s been driving me insane.”

Could that be true? Could Cam be out looking for me?

“You wanted to find me again?”

“Yeah, baby girl. We’re meant to be. We have a connection. You felt it when we touched. You felt it when you came on my tongue in a public restroom and again when I bent you over the bed and fucked you like a naughty girl.”

My body warms at his crass words and my clit throbs.

He cups my cheek, his big palm rough against my soft skin.
